Thanks for stopping by the site. Please check the STORIES section for the newest trees. Many times I will put out photos of trees here before I list them for sale on this YAMADORI page.

HOW IT WORKS - Please read↓

Contact me with your inquiry and the tree number. Please include your zip code.

I will calculate shipping and respond with the estimated shipping quote. I DO NOT mark up shipping costs, so you pay what I pay. I typically use UPS, FedEx, and USPS, but if you have a carrier or LTL service you like please let me know. I will work with you or any carrier to safely ship your tree.

All trees are fully wood-crated or reinforced boxing if smaller for transport and are insured for your protection.

If you are looking at a larger tree and the timing works, I will work with Bonsai Mirai or Eisei-en and utilize the covered wagon approach.

I only sell healthy trees that are fully recovered from the collection process.

If you would like a tree to be held for you I can arrange that as well (a non-refundable deposit is required).

I am constantly updating material for sale. New material is listed in the STORIES section before it goes onto the yamadori page.

Western Juniper
36x46x36
165lbs

$2500

Another specimen tree. This juniper is set up for a solid future. The base is wide, and the deadwood runs solidly through the tree out on the defining branch to the apex. This tree will refine well and pad up nicely.

Western Juniper
46x40x36
110 lbs

$1800

Clean lines, deadwood in the right places to enhance the image of age, and great foliage that is tight and ready to be set for the final image.

Western Juniper
24x32x24
90lbs

$3000 On hold (deposit)

This is one of the trees that when I saw on the mountain, I can instantly see the line and finished image. This tree is 90% there with minimal effort it will be “finished”. Like some of its siblings on here, it’s one I will be sad to see sold.

Western Juniper

21t x12d x 16w 26lbs

Western Juniper - On hold - repotted and styled in workshop

This small but strong juniper boasts all the makings of a fine tree. Don’t let the small stature fool you. It has great features, bark, and tight foliage. There is just enough movement, deadwood and taper to make this a standout.

Western Juniper
38x36x22
50lbs

On hold (repotted into ceramic)

Cleaned live vein, and thinned foliage in preparation for initial styling.

Styling thoughts: compression of live vein down towards the trunk. Deadwood is intertwined in the live vein making for a nice, aged appearance.

This tree work was conducted in fall and spring classes

Design thoughts: I would reduce the image of the tree by compressing the three branches into the area framing in the deadwood on the left side of the tree. I would use raffia to make this movement. The foliage is tight and reminds me of shimpaku.

Western Juniper
45x24x24
46lbs

$1400

This tree was cleaned and thinned in preparation for its initial styling.

The subtle movement in this upright tree has the makings of an elegant form. The bark, deadwood features and ten-jin all set this tree up to be wonderful. Foliage compression can easily be achieved, and the foliage will pad up

Design thoughts: I would compress the image of the tree by lowering branches down in an informal upright style. I would clean the apex and reveal a clean ten-jin. The base of the tree showcases the nice muscular live vein and a deadwood feature. This is a pretty easy tree to design and refine.

Pondo
32x32x24
46lbs

On hold, repotted on slab in workshop

His gnarly tree was collected several years ago. It was worked into its current form in the winter of 2022.

The tree has a beautiful bark and movement up the trunk. It looks dynamic from many angles and the foliage is developing nicely. The tree has produced nice buds for 2023 and I anticipate it getting very full over the next year or two.

Pondo
20x12x16
14lbs

On hold, repotted and styled in workshop

This is nice compact tree with good bark, sinuous movement and a secondary trunk that will make for a good deadwood feature.

Pondo
36t x20d x18w
21lbs

On hold, repotted in workshop

Initial style set, ready to be refined.

Photos below show progression from ‘21-’23.

Pondo - Corkbark 64x60x46
130lbs

On Hold, styled in spring of ‘23, repotted in spring of ‘24

This Pondo is very nice and has some hard-to-find features with the compact plated corky bark along with dense needles that are small compared to most Pondos. There are many styling directions this tree could go.

Fir
22t x 16d x16w
27lbs

On hold, repotted in workshop

This is one of the wild clump-style trees that come out of the forest. I looked at this tree after recovery for a couple of years before I really saw the line of the tree come to me. This tree came together nicely and is simple in its design.

Initial styling was done winter of 2023

Fir
48t x28d x24w
55lbs

$400

This tree was worked on in one of the intensive workshops this winter. It went from a crazy wild thing with a broken main stem to a relatable bonsai figure.

Styling thoughts: I would carve the straight deadwood feature and potentially develop a shari on the lower trunk that could and should tie the two pieces together.

Fir “elegant”
32t x 20d x24w
36lbs

On hold, repotted in workshop

This elegant, flowing tree has been initially styled last winter 2023. It will compress to make a nice, finished image in a year or two.

Styling thoughts: Shortening the branch length will polish up the design. Careful pruning and branch selection will pair well with strong fertilizer and aftercare.

Fir
24t x16d x16w
25lbs

On hold reworked in workshop class

Another simple tree with elegant lines. This tree is strong, and the foliage load has really grown nicely.

Styling thoughts: bud selection, branch pruning, and strong horticulture practice will set this tree up to fill in an be near “finished” quickly.

Fir 39t x 30d x 24w 42lbs

On hold, reworked in workshop class

Collected in 2019

Initial style 2021

Raffia and wire removed in spring 2023

Apex was folded back down to introduce movement to compliment the bark base and lower movement.

Fir
33t x32d x30w
23lbs

$225

This Fir clump could be styled as a true clump and each trunk treated as individual trees. There are a few of these I have styled in this manner. I let the tree guide me.

Fir
16t x6d x6w
5lbs

$50

This little guy was a “volunteer” that came home with a much larger tree.

Fir
28t x28d x26w
20lbs

$150

This tree was worked in a 2022 workshop and like one of its siblings, forgotten about and the wire scared the trunk and bit. It is not the worst I have seen, but it is noticeable.

Fir 22t x12d x12w
5lbs

$100

Initial style placed in winter workshop 2023.

Larch
48t x24d x20w
28lbs

$300

This tall healthy tree is ready to have its initial design placed.

Styling thoughts: My initial attraction to this tree is the diameter of the trunk. I would lower the tree via cutback and a new apex at the second set of branches. I would carve the top after the removal is done. Another thought would be to air-layer the top 2/3rds of the tree and then perform the work I stated above.

Spruce
28t x26d x22w
16lbs

$150

Untouched healthy tree. This tree needs to have an initial styling put on it.

Spruce

44t x24d x24w

36lbs

$350

This is a nice tall tree, very healthy and robust. The initial styling has been done this winter 2023. Like many other on the site, continual refinement, pruning, and horticultural practices will set this tree up to be something special.

Spruce

28t x16d x16w

21lbs

$150 Initial style in place, now ready for refinement.

Spruce

16x16x24

21lbs

$65

This tree was worked in a 2022 workshop with a couple of other trees on this site. This one was wired and styled and sadly forgotten about in the corner of the nursery. This tree grew so vigorously that it wire scared it (as you can see).

Spruce
22x12x12
10lbs

$100

Nice little compact double-trunk tree.

Hawthorn “box”
42x24x20
47lbs

$900 - This heavy trunk tree is another that will be hard to part with. The trunk is bold, strong, and has an attractive established bark. It has a great primary structure, and the secondary twigging is coming along nicely. I believe this tree can be refined in another two to three seasons with proper fertilizer, pruning, and minimal wire training. If the new owner desires to practice the clip and grow technique it will take a couple more years to refine, but either way it will result in an amazing tree. Most of these trees bloom, & all show amazing fall colors. Cold-hardy and has predictable growth. Crataegus douglasii.

Hawthorn
30x24x30
30lbs

$350 - This is a good pairing with a simple flow. The trees are old and have bark on them.

Design thoughts: I would remove the center trunk and pull in the lower right trunk to create a mother daughter design. Crataegus douglasii.

Hawthorn
32x16x16
17lbs

$150 - This small grouping of hawthorn can be developed into a nice simple grouping fairly quickly. Most of these trees bloom, & all show amazing fall colors. Cold-hardy and has predictable growth. Crataegus douglasii.

Hawthorn
28x12x12
12lbs

$175 - This tree has a well-established and compact root mass. The trunk has bark forming as well as solid primary structural branches. Most of these trees bloom, & all show amazing fall colors. Cold-hardy and has predictable growth. Crataegus douglasii.

Hawthorn
24x16x16
10lbs

$150 - This little guy is setup for success with a shallow well established root mass. The trunk is stout with bark developing.

Design thoughts: I would select the leader out of the upward branches and then begin to branch select and ramify the foliage. I would consider wiring out the heavier branches to expedite the production of foliage. Most of these trees bloom, & all show amazing fall colors. Cold-hardy and has predictable growth. Crataegus douglasii.

Sage - HDB0723 - On Hold - This large sage is quite heavy and dense 36” wide and 40” tall weighing about 50lbs
